My journey in the tobacco industry began over two decades ago, right after I graduated from the University of Nottingham with a degree in Agricultural Science. These experiences have allowed me to travel the globe, from the tobacco fields of Virginia in the USA to the bustling markets of Istanbul, Turkey. Each destination has enriched my understanding of tobacco, not just as a commodity, but as a cultural and historical artifact that brings people together.
My career highlights include leading a team that developed an award-winning, innovative curing process that significantly reduced the environmental impact of tobacco production. This work earned us the Green Leaf Award in 2018, an accomplishment I hold dear as it reflects my commitment to sustainability within the industry.
Beyond my professional life, I’m an avid gardener, growing my own tobacco plants among other herbs and vegetables. This hobby not only connects me more deeply to my work but also serves as a constant experiment in understanding the nuances of tobacco cultivation. I’m also a keen cyclist, finding joy and freedom in exploring the countryside on two wheels, and an amateur historian, with a particular interest in the role tobacco has played in shaping societies around the world.
